From Root
To Roll.

On the bamboo, and what makes it different from a tree.

Bamboo grove, the source material

From bamboo pulp to four-ply paper.

The First Edition starts with bamboo pulp and becomes the embossed paper inside your box. Its story includes both the plant and the manufacturing that turns it into a finished sheet.

Knowing the source is a start. Understanding the finished paper means looking at the steps that come after it.

Why bamboo

Bamboo is a grass, not a tree, and can regrow from its existing root system after harvest.

That is one property of the plant. It is not, on its own, a complete measure of a finished product’s environmental footprint.

What goes into it

Our manufacturer confirms 100% bamboo pulp, with no added fragrance or dye. The mill also confirms ECF bleaching and hydrogen peroxide. ECF means elemental chlorine-free: no elemental chlorine is used, but that does not mean no bleaching or no chlorine compounds are involved.

The paper’s cream appearance is described as natural colour. It does not mean the fibre was left unprocessed.

The journey

The paper is made in China. Finished rolls travel to Canada, where they are inspected and packed. Each First Edition roll contains 250 four-ply sheets and is individually paper-wrapped.

The details behind the description

Our records include manufacturer composition and process statements, alongside SGS reports for particular white-paper samples submitted by our manufacturer. Those reports do not identify BAMBUM retail batches.

A test result should be read with its sample and detection limit, rather than expanded into a promise of absolute zero.

For the feel of the finished paper, explore the First Edition. Both pack sizes use the same four-ply sheet.
